Implementing SESiS
As we continue arbitration hearings on our grievance to force the DOE to provide a sound and reasonable plan for implementing the Special Education Student Information System (SESIS), pleaseurge your members to document all of the work that they do on SESIS before and after their workday and/or their duty-free lunch. The union is asking that employees who have had to work beyond their normal workday be paid for their time. If the union succeeds, members may need to provide proof of the additional time they worked in order to get paid. Hang on to this documentation until the union requests it. This union-initiated grievance, along with our improper practice charge filed with the New York State Public Employment Relations Board (PERB), seek to force the DOE to provide the equipment, time, training and support that our members need to do work involving SESIS.

Share your lessons with a new member
The new website sharemylesson.com, an exciting joint venture of the AFT, UFT and TES, needs the input of your members to help it meet its potential as a key resource for teachers. Offering free learning materials, lesson plans, worksheets, discussion starters and group activities that you can download and adapt in your own classroom, the site’s success will depend on buy-in from educators like you. Please encourage teachers to sign up and become a part of the Share My Lesson community. You as chapter leader were mailed a letter from UFT President Michael Mulgrew about the website as well as a flier for your UFT bulletin board and brochures to distribute to your members. By publicizing this great new site, we can help make Share My Lesson a powerful nationwide community forum for teachers, by teachers.
